Project Coordination

RFIs that preserve the context behind a decision

A useful RFI connects the question, drawing context, responsible party, response, decision, and resulting project record.

Digital building model used to coordinate technical project information
Model and drawing context can make technical questions easier to understand and resolve.

An RFI is most useful when a future reader can understand why the question was raised and how the response affected the work.

Build a traceable question

  1. Reference the affected drawing, model view, specification, or work package.
  2. Describe the observed conflict or missing information.
  3. Assign the responsible responder and required response date.
  4. Record the response and any resulting document revision or site action.

The answer matters, but so does the route from observation to verified project record.
